quotes

day 12 - share ten of your favorite quotes

Skipping another day of the 17-day-challenge. Nobody's going to notice that...and if you noticed it...ssssh. Okay, I told you...whatever. Rambling over.

I'm not big of a quote person, but I own a notebook where write down quotes I like, so I'm going to share some of the quotes I can find in there.

"Brotherhood is about a hell of a lot more than sharing the same parented units."
-John Green
"It made her think that it was curious how much nicer a person looked when he smiled. She had not thought of it before."
-The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgsen Burnett
"People alive are better than people not alive."
-Craig Benzine
"What a treacherous thing to believe that a person is more than a person."
-John Green
"I do not want to live in a world where we only focus on suck, and never think about awesome."
-Hank Green
"When I look at my room I see a girl who loves books."
-Looking for Alaska by John Green
"What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it."
-The Catcher in the Rye by J.D.Salinger
"All you have to do is say something nobody understands and they'll do practically anything you want them to."
-The Catcher in the Rye by J.D.Salinger
"Orange juice and brushing your teeth is like...eating soup upside-down. It just doesn't work."
-NicePeter
"Maybe our favorite quotations say more about us than about the stories and people we’re quoting."
-John Green

I have my reasons why I picked these quotes. When you look at the who all these quotes said you'll notice that they have something in common. They're either from a book I read or from someone on YouTube. This means that I'm 100% sure that these quotes have been said/written by these people, because I heard/read it with my own ears/eyes.
Quotes are often wrong or put from ones persons mouth into another...

weekend all week long.

Being on vacation is a lot like the weekend just longer. It's wonderful to forget which day it is or even look how late it is. It doesn't matter.

This is the last Picture/Quote/Italy post. Here are the links to the previous posts:

turn like a record.

This black dot in the picture is not a mysterious phenomenon of nature, no, it's just the sign that my camera will probably die soon. My camera stopped working for a while after I dropped it in the sand. It worked again after I hit it with my hand really hard. Yes, this works. And then this black dot appeared. And now it's gone again and my camera is working fine...I hope it will live for at least one more year. I need my camera and I can't afford a new one at the moment :/

it gives you freedom.

Posting this quote after yesterday's quote is kind of strange. It has a bit of a negative touch, but I also see it positive. The attitude that the world will never change is kind of bad. But as it says in the quote that's at the same time the reason why you can do and say what you want which leads to yesterday's quote:
Don't make your life complicated because the world will never change and that's why you should relax and do and say whatever you want.
Ha! Take that! ;)

I found out in Italy that my mom seems to have quite an eye for photography. I'm surprised. I love this picture for example. She took it and she took quite a lot good pictures of me. It's great that there's someone in the family who can take good pictures of people. My brother, dad and I hate taking pictures of people and we don't have any talent for it...

don't make your life so complicated

I've already posted this picture, but I like the combination of this photo and this quote so I decided to post it again. And there's something true about this quote. We tend to make our life much more complicated than it is. Not only the own life. Sometimes people and if you think about it twice probably even you make other people's life complicated.
Being on vacation made me feel free and let me forget all the problems and bad things. It made everything less complicated (beside the fact that my parents were really complicated when it came to what we're going to do and organizing things...haha...).

on the sides of the border.

On our way to Italy I noticed how the houses changed. If nobody had told me that we were in Italy I would still have recognized it. As soon as we passed the border the houses and churches looked Italian. It's interesting. A border is just an invisible line in the landscape and still it makes such a big difference on which side of the line you are.

The reason why I love to quote lyrics from Ezra Furman and the Harpoons is easy to explain. You just have to look at this quote. How can someone on this planet possibly write something like that? I don't get it. I could never write lyrics like that...

moon.

I love the sunset at the beach. Sunrises are pretty too, but I like sunsets best. I love to watch the sun "falling" into the ocean (sadly the sun didn't fall into the ocean in Lignano...it fell into some hotels...), see how everything calms down and turn dark. I love the night and I love the sky at night.
That's why I like sunsets more than sunrises. When the sun rises everything is getting loud, bright and hectically...

I decided that I'm not going to a post just about Italy. Instead I'm going to post picture/quote posts from Italy. Like this one here.

I'm young. I don't understand young people. I don't understand grown-ups. I don't understand myself.
I don't understand life.
I don't what it's for. I don't see the point. I don't see the future. I don't see the past.
I don't see life.
I only know two emotions. I know happiness. I know hate. I don't know anything in between.
I don't know life.
I can't feel. I can't talk. I can't laugh. I can't cry.
I can't live.

I'm young.
I hate my life today.
I'll love it tomorrow.
As long as there's love it's okay.

Um...yeah...I had an emotional breakdown yesterday...
I'm kinda sorry for all the people who always have to stand me during these phases. And I'm also really thankful that they're there. Thanks. I love you :)

Picture taken in Italy. There will be a post about Italy. I just have to put it together...hopefully soon...
and I'm sorry that I still didn't get around reading all your blog posts. :/

Home, where are you?

Where Is My Home?

Nothing matters more to a child than a place to call home.
– Brenda Donald

What happened with my home?
I don't know it anymore.
I had one long ago.
I split it into two.
I split it into two nowheres.

I tried to live alone, but lonely is so lonely, alone.
– Any Other World, MIKA

What is home?
Is home where your family is?
Is home where you spend most of your time?
Is home where you like to be?
Is this home?
What is it?
I don't know it.

Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.
– Robert Frost

I don't have one anymore.
When I come home
I want to go home
And there I want to go home again
But neither home is home.
It's all an endless circle of being alone.

Whatever happened with my home, I would like to have one again.

we should fix the salad.

mom: i should fix the salad.
me: why should you fix the salad?
[...]
me: [...] i mean, why do you have to fix the salad? who broke it? i didn't touch it. did you break the salad, mom? if you did, YOU'D BETTER FIX IT!

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan

1. this was a joke of the "me" in the book. but it stuck in my head.

2. i should try to fix the salad i broke.

3. which is, of course, not salad.

4. we all should try to fix the salad we broke.

5. i read this book in one day. 310 pages. i couldn't stop reading.

6. you should read this book. it's hilarious.

7. attention:
a) it contains a lot of cussing. i didn't mind.
b) if you're not okay with homosexuality you probably shouldn't read it...
c) ...or probably you should read it because of that.
d) never mind. i don't mind if you do not agree with homosexuality.
e) as long as you don't hurt/insult/etc. people who are gay.

Thanks.

I do what I do, you do what you do and let's agree to disagree when we don't agree. :)
                                                        -Hope

And I'm not only talking about homosexuality. This "rule" is true for [almost] everything.

poetry from nature

Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems.
                                                                                                                 -Rainer Maria Rilke

Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!"
                                                                                -Robin Williams
Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.
                                                                                                                   -Doug Larson

This post is dedicated to spring. My favorite season. I love spring!

As always, pictures taken by me.

I'm not tipptopp, are you?

It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default.
                                                                                                       - J.K.Rowling

Note: tipptopp means tip-top ;)

not so serious moments

If it's not fun, you're not doing it right.
                                                                                             -Fran Tarkenton

Note #01: Photos taken at a photo booth.

Note #02: I did it the first time and I think I have a new obsession...

Don't let it fly away

Write down the thoughts of the moment. Those that come unsought for are commonly the most valuable.
- Francis Bacon

Note #01: Picture taken in 2009.
Note #02: That's my brother.
Location: I forgot how this place is called! :( It's 30-40 (by car) away from my hometown...have to ask my mom...

Thank you for the rain

Also I really like umbrellas. It's like "I have a roof! I carry it with me!"...Umbrellas always amuse me.

My day started too late. Too late means 11:00 a.m., which is too late considering that I should have been at university at 8:30 and promised my mom to call her at 10:00.
After some soup for breakfast, lunch or whatever it was I went to university, because the internet decided not to work again and I had to do some homework online.
I was there for nearly two hours. Sitting in the hallway, freezing. I love old buildings, but they are not fun in the winter. And if you're wondering why I was sitting in the hallway: You can only sit in the hallways or on cold stairs or in the library. There are no rooms to go when you have to wait or just want to work...old building...really old.
I decided to go home and as a left the building I stood in the rain. Oh rain, how much do I love you?
I'm glad it's raining and not snowing. I do not like winter and can't wait for spring. And mild weather and rain are the first signs of spring.
I was so happy about the weather that I grabbed my camera and an umbrella and went to a park to take some pictures. The only thing I forgot: It's january, which means the day ends at 4:30 pm.
So I stood there in the dark. I was a bit disappointed and the pictures didn't turn out how I wanted.
But I'm happy. And that's the important thing.
And I finally have a reason to share this quote. Love it!

Location: Burggarten Vienna in front of a Mozart statue. The big building in the background is the Museum of Art History, the only museum I like. The road between the park and the museum is the Ringstraße, a circular road surrounding the first district of Vienna. The first district is the one with all the main tourist attractions...

Note #01: I write down the location to educate you bit... :)

Note #02: If the rain isn't heavy I usually don't use an umbrella. I went to the Burggarten without using the umbrella. I used it for the photos and went back to the underground station without it... ;)

Open your eyes

You see, but you do not observe. The distinction is clear.
                                                                                       - Quote from Sherlock Holmes (haven't read it... )

Past

"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending."
                                                                                                                    - Maria Robinson

Maybe I should make this quote to my new year's resolution...

Big "Thank you!" to Shaynie, who found this quote.
