Math Test

How many times does Austria fit into the USA?
Can you guess it?
Or calculate it without a calculator. Calculators are not allowed in my Math class :P

(more cryptic posts about Austria - coming soon!)

Above the rooftops...

A beautiful city from above turns into something even more beautiful.

Location: Graz - capital of Styria and second largest city (population of about 292,000...) of Austria...yes, Austria is...um...small...

Exhausted!!!

I'm exhausted! I feel like I'm lying in the Savanna after being knocked down by an elephant. Okay, I have no idea how this would be, but I feel like this.
The main reason for this exhaustion is the heat. It has 35°C/95°F (in the shaddow) and that's way too much for me. I'm not a person who love the hot season. Everything above 30°C/86°F is too much. Less than two weeks ago we had only 17°C/62°F. That's not normal anymore! Strange Austrian climate. Temperatures down to -17°C/0°F in the winter and up to 35°C/95°F in summer! No, no, I don't like that.
But stop talking about the Austrian climate. I just wanted to teach you something about Austria :P
The other thing why I'm terrible exhausted is the "First Cambridge Certificate" I had today. First I wanted to do the "Advanced Cambridge Certificate", but I didn't have time to study for it (because my final exams are much more important) and I decided to do the easier one. It was okay. Some parts were easy, some parts were awful and I'm glad you didn't hear me talking. But the speaking part was easier than expected, but I think sometimes there was no sense in what came out of my mouth. Same thing with my blog. Sometimes I'm not sure what I'm talking about (for example: NOW! :P ) But who cares? It's over. I'm no hoping that I passed it. I'll be happy with a C (which means passed). I would be more than happy with a B and I can't describe how I would react after receiving an A!
Oh, and did I mention that this exam was 6 hours long?

Just some more "education" :D
Poor Austria. Landlocked. Sad thing...
"Austria is a small, predominantly mountainous country in Central Europe, approx. between Germany, Italy and Hungary. It has a total area of 83,859 km², about twice the size of Switzerland and slightly smaller than the state of Maine.
The landlocked country shares national borders with Switzerland (164 km) and the tiny principality of Liechtenstein (35 km) to the west, Germany (784 km) and the Czech Republic (362 km) and Slovakia (91 km) to the north, Hungary to the east (346 km), and Slovenia (311 km) and Italy (430 km) to the south (total: 2563 km)."

The world is photogenic

It's friday half past seven in the evening, I have a cold and I'm tired, tired and...yes, I think I'm tired. Tired because I have a cold and tired because I don't like it to get up early in the morning.
Today I wanted to post something creative, but I was too tired to do anything... ;)

The only thing I have to share are photos I took this week. Some photos of my autumn walk with Hannah. We went around three hours!

Somewhere...also known as photogenic landscape

some cute goats! They were really photogenic. They always looked in the same direction straight to the camera ;)
At this picture Hannah took a photo right beside me, so the goats looked at her...

a BIG photogenic mashroom! Hannah took it with her after taking photos of it...

and a photogenic spider - and a beautiful one too...

Have a nice weekend!

Mid-mid-week post

Okay, there is no sense in the title of the post, but there won't be much sense in the post itself, so I don't care about the title...

It's Tuesday evening and here is a little review of what I did since Sunday.

1. baking some cookies...

2. Thinking always the same sentense: "Be careful, I'm mortal" I thought that since Sunday hundred of times (think so)

3. drawing a picture for Ines' birthday...

4. writing a letter of complaint for school... great fun! ;) "the hotel in Lisbon was terrible..." I love to imagine how terrible a holiday in Lisbon could be and then complain about it!

5. Simple but beautiful: my favourite picture of last Sunday.

6. looking forward to a long autumn walk with Hannah! Yeah!

7. Figuring out that I took to much photos of corn fields and utility poles

8. Terrible fact in the end: You can't dance without having someone to dance... terrible!

I love where I live

I have a question to you: What do you know about Austria?

I love Austria even if I can't stand high mountains.
But I can tell you, that I don't live in the mountain area, where I live, there are only hills ;)

I think most of you are from the USA and I often ask myself, what people from an other continent know about the small country somewhere in the nowhere of Europe called Austria.

You can also ask questions if you are interested in it...

Fun of Friday

Today there was a terrible heat! Real summer!
After two hours dancing, I went with Hannah to a flea market. It was great fun to look around and we found lots of strange things. But I only bought a little metal tea box.
Then we decided to spend the afternoon at the small lake in the nearby village. So we went there by bike and enjoyed the sun and the water.

Some photos:

Have a nice weekend!

A lake and no mountains

From Monday to Wednesday I was in Illmitz at the Neusiedler See (Lake Neusiedl) in the north-east of Austria.
Lake Neusiedl is the second largest steppe lake in Central Europe and the only one in Austria.
I was there with my school and it was very interesting.
We visited the national park and watched the birds and the landscape.
On Tuesday we went around by bike and it was great fun.

I took many pictures, here are some of them.

That isn't the Lake Neusiedl. There are many smaller lakes around...

A Greylag Goose family - they are so cute!

An old typical well

No mountains, no hills...everything is flat. The highest "mountain" in that area is something about 400m high. That's nothing!
But you can see, that the landscape of the small country Austria has different sites. In the east there aren't mountains and in the west there are mountains more than 2 500m high...

Water, water, water... that's Lake Neusiedl (and some "mountains" in the back)

A vineyard

And there is no vineyard without poppies

Frogs. I love how the stare at you.

I hope you like some of the photos.

A different way

Today I took my camera and went out to take some photos.
After some time I decided to went up to the small park, where
I love to be. And there's a thing, which I love to take photos of it (or should I better say through it?).
It's a prisma. You can turn it around and look through it and
you can see the world in a different way. Everything is upside down or you can see the colours of the rainbow.
Here is how the prisma looks like.

It's hard to take photos through it, because you can see more than you can get on a photo. But here are some of my best ones.
