tubeway army.

My dad was a little music fan when he was at my age, which is hard to imagine when you know him now. He never listens to music other than what comes on the radio when he drives to work. But he has a quite decent record collection from the late 70s. And I LOVE it. Sadly, I don't get the chance to listen to them very often. Our record player is in the living room and my mom is at home almost always and so far I haven't found a record my mom likes. Bleh.
Yesterday mom's work started again, which means I'm more or less alone three days a week (my brother doesn't count ;) ). I listened to some records today and found Tubeway Army and fell in love immediately.

It's a punk rock / new wave band from London. Sadly they were only active from 1976 to 1979. I'm bad at talking about music, so please just listen to it. Even though I think it sounds better when you listen to it on a record player. There's something special about the sound of a record :)

Enjoy!

MUSE are aweseome.

MUSE is one of my favorite bands ever. Their music is awesome, but that's not the only reason why I love them. What I love about this band is that they do what they want and not what people tell them to do. For example they don't play playback and if they have to, they make a parody out of it. Switch places and stuff. Super funny.
Here are some videos that shows best what I mean.

Here's a hilarious playback performance of their song "Uprising". If you're not familiar with the band MUSE you'll probably not notice what's wrong. So here's the video description:
"The rock band was forced to play in playback during an italian tv show about football "Quelli che il Calcio".So Muse decided to exchange their instruments and positions. The singer became a drummer, the drummer sang and played bass, and the guy who usually play the bass played guitar and keyboard.
Nobody (in the tv show) noticed the difference.
Futhermore at the end of that fantastic performance the hostess interviewed the drummer that still acting like the singer talked about his friend matthew at the drum (he his the real singer)."

The next video is called "muse-wat happens wen they're drunk" on YouTube, but I'm pretty sure that they weren't drunk. Some people in the comments said, that they were told not to cuss during their perfomance. MUSE never cuss in their songs so they were a bit angry...
If you don't want to hear the f-bomb several times, don't watch this video!

I love the comment on YouTube: "Matt just pops out of nowhere. Like "What? I didnt say anything" :D" Haha.

And the last one. Funny interview. I like how Matt keeps smelling the tea ;)

Also watch Part 2 and Part 3

Love this band :)

"and I'll take you with me, and we'll grow old and lovely"

I thought it would be nice to share my favorite song of all time, which is The Worm in the Apple - Ezra Furman and the Harpoons. I almost believe that it will be my favorite song for the rest of my life.
There are songs I love and listen to a lot more than to this one and still it's The Worm in the Apple which is my favorite.
When I typed the name of the song in at YouTube only one video showed up that actually is about this song. And this video only got about 5000 hits. I couldn't believe it. This song is fantastic, how can it get only 5000 hits?
At the same time I'm glad. It makes it a bit more special, if you know what I mean :)
There has always been an acoustic version of this song on YouTube where you can see Ezra Furman playing the song on the roof of some building. I loved this video and I have no idea why they removed it :(
I love this song because the lyrics speak to me (even though I don't know why) and I could quote every single line. I love Ezra Furman's songwriting. For me most of the songs I know have either dumb, boring or simple but good lyrics. When I listen to Ezra Furman it's for sure good, but not simple. He's way to describe things is amazing.
Enjoy. :)

I’m gonna sit on a big fluffy cloud
Looking down at the tops of the heads of the crowds
Moving 'round and around the dark center of town
With their eyes all searching for something that can’t be found
I’m gonna laugh at the top of my lungs
'til I can’t quite remember just what the joke was
But the laughter will fill up my body with love
Which is always what I’ve been told I’m supposed to want

And I’m gonna fly on a plane to the sky
Which my mind will devise using science that’s being forgotten
Cause I’m getting bored of the town of New York
How the world’s been transformed into a big apple and it’s gotten so rotten

While all the world makes money so stoically
I will be building my home out of poetry
Scraps of old volumes, wire and glue,
Will be something, though feeble, it’s all I can do
In the back of the room my fingers will shake
With the fury of someone with something to make
That will take him so far, far away from this place
That he’ll never look back at all the worms and the snakes

And they’ll lick at my heals, but they aren’t even real
I will twirl and wheel through the skyway, high over the steeple
And I’ll take you with me and we’ll grow old and lovely
We’ll eat fine apples from the tree of knowledge of good and evil
You won’t know about that

Burning with all the things I must do
To get free of the wasteland of wire and glue
I am wandering from cage to cage at the Bronx zoo
And I’m renaming all of the animals
I can’t just wait on my knees in the chapel
To be bitten into like a worm in the apple
I’m digging for freedom, guitar for a shovel
I’m dirty; my fingertips hurt me

The kids of Atlantis, magazines beneath the mattress
With their names in the atlas of heartbreak are calling my name
And I’m feeling baffled, the worm in the apple,
But the cold water tap will rain down upon me
And nothing will be the same
It’s all gonna be different now

I spent the last month listening to Lady Gaga...

Am I the only one in this pretty universe who sometimes suffers from massive music confusions? This moment when I listen to a song for the 25th time and suddenly wonder why I'm listening to it. Why do I enjoy it? Why, oh why?

Music is pretty important for me. I listen to music a lot, but not like many people all the time. There are moments when the last thing I want is music.
When it comes to my favorite music you can find a list here. These are pretty much my favorite bands. I love their music. Their music means a lot to me. This is the music that influences and inspires me. BUT. A big BUT. It's also the music I don't listen to that often. I probably listen to my music confusions more often than to my all time favorite band Ezra Furman and the Harpoons.

What's the reason that I listen to Swedish techno right now? Okay. This one is easy to explain. Lena sent me a link and here we go. Catchy song. Awful, but catchy. And that's how I rule.
I spent the last month listening to Lady Gaga. I hardly ever listened to anything else. I listened to her album The Fame Monster on my way to university, while shopping, on the train, at night while browsing through the web. All the time. I'm away from Gaga now. Not completely. I still listen to it. And enjoy it.
But Lady Gaga had to move for my new confusion. MIKA. I just bought his first (?) album. MIKA is not so bad. There are some songs I like a lot (really like, not like Lady Gaga). I'm sure you don't want to see my iTunes. It's a collection of my beloved music confusions and awesome GOOD music.

Believe me, lyrics are important to me. I listen to lyrics (most of the time) and I really care about what the songs I call my favorite songs are about.
I also try to get behind the lyrics of my confusions, but no matter what the songs are about, I won't stop listening to it just because the lyrics are about something I disagree with.
I know that Telephone by Lady Gaga is one of the most ridiculous songs ever written. No reason for me to stop listening to it.

My confusion music is here for me to cope with difficult situations, to get through days with university, to dance around crazy in my room… It doesn’t influence my thinking or doing other than to make my days better.
And that’s okay…

Do you also have such confusions?

PS.: My blog anniversary is on May 18th. Any ideas how I could celebrate it? Giveaway ideas? Another Q&A vlog? I have no idea what to do… :/

PPS.: I really chew a lot on my head phone cable…

...and your song says what it says...

I decided not to do tags anymore, but I got tagged by Shelley and I've already seen this tag before and I liked it (and secretly hoped that somebody's going to tag me...).
I like this tag because you can see what kind of music people love. I tried not to include too many YouTube musicians, so I put only three on the list. So here we go:

List 10 artists (music) in no particular order before reading the questions below.

1. Ezra Furman and the Harpoons
2. Hank Green
3. Ben Folds
4. Muse
5. Alex Day

6. Jack Johnson
7. Tom Milsom
8. AIR
9. Death Cab for Cutie
10. Bishop Allen

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
I can't remember. But most likely Upside Down

What is your favourite song of 8?
I don't have a favorite AIR song. I only listen to AIR when I'm in a certain mood and then I listen to a who album and never only one song.

What kind of impact has 1 left on your life?
You have to know that I love music, but I'm the kind of person who gets excited about a band/an artist. There are tons of songs I love but I've never checked out the other work of the band/artist.
Ezra Furman & The Harpoons is a big exception. When I got into it I spend hours reading/watching interviews on the internet and searching for music at YouTube.
Their music and lyrics mean so much to me and Ezra Furman has a fascinating personality.

What is your favourite lyric of 5's?
I tried to find a favorite line, but I couldn't find one. Hm...I like his music a lot, but apparently no favorite lines...

How many times have you seen 4 live?
Haha. I've never seen Muse live (or any other band). I'd LOVE to!

What is your favourtie song of 7?

Is there any song of 3 that makes you sad?
Sometimes The Luckiest and sometimes Still Fighting It

What is your favourite song by 9?

How did you first get into 2?
That's easy. With the internet came my YouTube obsession. With my YouTube obsession came my Vlogbrothers obsession with my Vlogbrothers obsession came Hank Green's music.

How did you first get into 3?
I love to "borrow" CDs from my brother (borrow=I take them without permission and give them back after months...). I found a Ben Folds CD about 1,5 years ago and let's say...I still have this CD in my room (my brother don't listen to it anymore...)

What is your favourite song by 4?
That's hard. New Born, Plug in Baby, Space Dementia, Map of Problematique, Assassin...I think you got it that I love Muse...

How many times have you seen 9 live?
As I said before I've never been to any concerts. So never. I'd love to see them if someone gives me a ticket. I think I wouldn't buy one myself unless it's super cheap.

What is a good memory concerning 10?
I only know one song by this band and I love it. It's Click Click Click Click. I could listen to it all the time.

Is there a song by 8 that makes you sad?
No, not really. Sometimes their music makes me sad. It depends on my mood.

What is your fave song of 1's?
I can't decide! I love so many. The first one that I absolutly loved and still is one of my favorites is The Worm in the Apple. I love every line of this song. It's amazing.

How did you become a fan of 10?
I'm not really a fan. I mean I know only ONE song...

Take this tag if you like it...

Thank YOU! - The last recap of the year

The last day of 2010 turned out to be a friday. That's perfect, because friday is Weekly Recap day. And what else should I do than modify the weekly recap post a bit and turn it into a 2010 recap.

A recap in which I say thank you...

2010 in one word or phrase:
I wish it would have been better

 i was dreaming of:
Traveling. All the time!

songs on repeat:
Always Love - Nada Surf (I don't know why, but I could listen to this song all day long)
Never miss a beat - Kaiser Chiefs (back in the times when I went to school and was frustated all the time)
Tom Milsom! (on the train and everywhere else)
Like it's Quidditch - NicePeter (on repeat three days long)
I wanna be ignored - Ezra Furman and the Harpoons (because I wanna be ignored sometimes...)
and many more...

gotta write it down:
You are awesome! Yes, YOU!
I'm so glad and happy that I can be here at blogger and meet many amazing girls.
I want to say thank you to all my followers. For spending another year with me on the internet. For being friends. For all your comments. For comments that made me smile. For comments that made me cry in a positive way (I'm talking about the comments I got on my Giveaway results post. I couldn't publish all the comments, because of personal information the winners left in the comments. I never get such wonderful comments before. THANK YOU!).
And of course thank you for being such awesome bloggers. Thank your for writing great blog post.
I can't wait to spend another year with you here on the internet.

lesson learned:

I love cello!

It's time for some YouTube awesomeness!
I love cello and would love to have cello lessons. One day...maybe...
Here is something I found on YouTube. I spend to much time on YouTube, but there are many talented people around...

I'll tell you more about my week tomorrow. And some pictures.
Have a lovely day!

Free time = busy time

I realised how much I have to do after I didn't have anything to do.
That's how it is at the moment.
I don't have to do anything. No studying, nothing. But since I've finished school I'm still busy.

The first thing was, that I put all my school stuff together and banned it from my room. It's so good to have a room without school books and pages of calculations or other handwritten stuff.
My room is a bit empty now. I realised: school stuff needs a lot of space.

After that I started to answer letters and e-mails. I answered a letter I got back in March. That's not a good feeling! I apologized hundreds of times and I hope that she'll write back. I totally forgot about some of my friends during the last months. That's sad. But now I try to write more often to keep in touch with them.

I also have many things to do to plan my vacation. Searching for flights and trains. Trains are complicated. The Austrian and German train system is awful. Maybe it's only because I don't understand it, but it IS complicated and expensive. Taking the airplane is much more easier and cheeper.

Let's continue. Next busy point: FUTURE!
Yes, there's something after 14 weeks free time. And I have to think about this time (even if I don't want to think about it).
I have to make big decisions. University, yes. But that's all I know. Should I study English, Biology, History, Math (okay, I'll not study Math!) or something completely different? Something uncommon? I have to find something that I really like, but I haven't yet.

And the second thing about FUTURE! (I love to write this word in capitals, it's more dramatically ;)
I have to search a place to live. As I mentioned I am going to move to Vienna.
In September.
But I don't know where in Vienna. So I have to search a flat... I'll share it with a good friend, but it's difficult to find a place to live in a big city (if you are a girl from a small town).

Anything else?
Um, yes. Driving license...
How much do I dislike cars?
Very, very much!
But everybody tells me, that I need a driving license. Too bad.

I have to go to bed now. It's 11:23 PM and I don't want to know how many mistakes I did in this post. My English is not the best at this time of the day. And my thoughts are somewhere between the Football World Cup and Winnetou.
Do you watch the World Cup? It's a pity that the USA lost the last game. And today England lost and Germany won. I don't like the German team.
By the way, I don't know anything about football (for those who don't know it: football=soccer). I only watch it, if there's a World Cup or a European Cup.
And Winnetou? Yes, Winnetou, nothing else to say ;)
Just listen:

Beautiful!
I wanted to watch the movies today, but I couldn't. :'(

Bye! :)

Random things

I love to post random things!

1. I added a list to my sidebar. It's a list of things I want to do until the end of the year. I know, people usually do such lists at the beginning of the year, but it's fun to do anyway.
Here is the list. Probably I'll add some more things.

( ) read 100 books
( ) watch 100 movies
( ) read the New Testament
( ) visit three different countries
( ) get my first own laptop
( ) read all Narnia books
( ) sew four skirts/dresses
( ) learn how to cook

That's how the list looks like at the moment. I'll write a "x" into the brakes, when I reached it. At the point with the movies and the books I'll down the number of movies/books, I've already reached.
At the moment it looks like that:

(12) read 100 books
(50) watch 100 movies

I think I'll never reach the 100 books thing...

2. A good friend and I are going to Vienna tomorrow. I'm so excited about it. Firstly because I haven't seen that friend for months and secondly because I love Vienna!
I'll post some pictures at the weekend.

3. Do you like Owl City? I'm not really a fan of Owl City, but I like some songs of them and I found an amazing cover of "Fireflies" on Youtube. You totally have to check out the videos of this girl. She's such a talented girl and she does covers of many christian bands.

4. I changed my mind. I like Lord of the Rings! I watched the third movie some days ago and now I like it a lot. (Maybe I dislike it again, when I rewatch them ;P It changes all the time. Like-dislike-like-dislike...don't know why)
Do you want to know my favourite characters? Here they are:
Sam - my favourite Hobbit!
Legolas - I like how he and Gimli talk to each other. So funny! And Legolas always has less arrows in his quiver than he actually uses in the fight (I counted them!)
Aragorn - I just like him, don't know why. Seems to be a nice guy ;) And he always survives...
and
Gollum - yes, one of my favourite characters is Gollum. I know, he is a bad character, but he's an interesting character.
Oh, I nearly forgot to mention the trees. The Ents. I like them a lot.

That's it!
Have a nice day!

And don't forget to enter my giveaway!

(Not) Only Pictures in May - Day 16 - Motivation? Yes, please!

This day isn't worth a picture.

"What did you learn today? I learned nothin'
What did you do today? I did nothin'
What did you learn at school? I didn't go
Why didn't you go to school? I don't know"
(Kaiser Chiefs - Never Miss A Beat)

Thank you Kaiser Chiefs to sum up my day.

Only Pictures in May - Day 15 - Atonement and worried

Two days ago I watched "Atonement". I liked the movie a lot.
One of my favourite things in movies are the locations. Beautiful landscapes or awesome houses. Yes, houses. Here is the one of Atonement:

Oh, I want to live there! I totally fell in love with it :)
Here's another one from inside:

This house is perfect.

Not only the house was amazing...

Do you have some favourite movie locations?

And check out the soundtrack:

Sorry for my lack of words. My thoughts are somewhere deep into biology. My final exams starts on monday, which means that I'm nervous and worried.
Monday is the day of the English exam. A 5 hour exam! How terrible is it? ;) Okay, English is not that bad. I like English a lot (one reason for blogging in English) and it's my favourite subject and I'm really good at it (good, not perfect).
I don't have an exam on Tuesday.
Wednesday is the day of German. Also 5 hours writing. Shouldn't be a big problem, but I'm a bit nervous.
Thursday - Biology. 4 hours long. I don't want to think about it. I don't want to write this exam! It's awful and I feel like I don't know anything about Biology. Actually I don't know a lot about Biology. I hope that I won't fail it!
Nothing on Friday!
And on Saturday the last written exam: Math! Okay, I don't know what I should think about Math. I like Math, but in the last months I was really bad at it and now I don't know what I should think about it.
Well, that's how my next week looks like.
After the written exams I have 4 weeks free time, which means that I don't have much free time. It only means, that I don't have exams. It's preparation time for the oral exams.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

My current mood:

Some ideas

It seems like I post only videos.
This time: 5 music ideas.
I don't know which one I should finish first! What do you think?
There are many mistakes in the video (as usual).
Enjoy it and let me know your opinion.

By the way: It took me hours to do that video/audio-editing. I had to terminate the programm with the Task-Manager something about 25 times! And once I had to restart the computer...

Finished

As I mentioned, I've finished my composition.
Enjoy it!

one of my favourite pieces

A piano piece again.
First I want to say, that I've finished my composition and I'll upload it soon.
This one is one of my favourite pieces. It's called "Song of India" composed by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov.
I took this video after not practicing this piece for some month, so it's full of mistakes (especially in the middle). But I'm not really good in playing a piece without any mistakes, so it doesn't matter if there some more mistakes... ;) So please do not care about the terrible mistakes in the middle of the piece...
I hope you like it.

Piano

Here comes a video of me playing the piano. You can't see me...
I upload this video, because a friend want to see it and it doesn't work to send a video with an e-mail.
So, everyone who wants to watch, do it and enjoy it.
(There are some mistakes in it and it has an open end)
