A few days ago I decided to do something else than watching Twin Peaks all day long and decided to watch a movie instead. That's how I rule. I don't want to sit in front of the computer watching Twin Peaks all day long, so I'm sitting in front of the computer and watch a movie.
I watched Suspiria. A horror film from the 70s by the Italian director Dario Argento. I like old horror films quite a lot. I can't stand the new ones, trash like Saw etc. I like these old ones where you only get scared a little and there is a story and everything's so beautiful.
Suspiria is a movie with awkward acting, creepy smiling, amusing stabbing, childlike dialogs, the best soundtrack I've heard in a good while, and the most beautiful colors and interior design ever. I fell in love with the interior design. Take a look and listen to the theme of the movie:

I haven't talked about movies in a while. It's time to do this again. This time one of my new favorite movies of all time. Corpse Bride. Here's the trailer:
I was a bit skeptical when I picked this movie. Don't ask me why. I mean it's a Burton movie, why should I be skeptical? Anyway, when I picked it at the library the librarian told me that this movie is fantastic and that she loved it and I think she could have talked about it for hours. And I was like (in my head) "Yeah...blablabla...whatever...give me the movie!" Let's say, I don't like it when people talk a lot instead of just giving me the stuff I want. But I should probably talk about the movie.
I think I fell in love with this movie after the first minute. There are so many good things about this movie. The songs are great, the music is perfect, the dialogs are funny (but not stupid funny), Johnny Depp's voice is just heaven and I want to marry Victor. I also like the length of the movie. It's only 77 minutes long, which is a good length for a movie like that. It's perfect to watch in the morning before breakfast or whenever you don't have a lot of time. I serisously think I could watch this movie every single day for the rest of my life.
Victor: "I've got...I've got a dwarf, and I'm not afraid to use him!"
Also I watched the special features about how the movie was made and you should too if you get the DVD. It's a stop-motion movie, which means they had to take a few thousand pictures and move the puppets around all the time and bring their legs and arms and everything in the correct position. I think you have to be really patient to do this. Pretty cool stuff...
I have only one more thing to say and that's: Go and watch this movie!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factorywas the first one. Back in the times when I didn't care about directors and producers. When movies weren't more than something fun to have on rainy days. And still it was the beginning.
Big Fishwas my first Tim Burton love. A magical movie. A beautiful story about love, dreams and the beauty of life. A movie I can rewatch many times and every time I fell in love like I haven't seen it before.
Ed Woodwas the first one where I realized how awesome the combination Burton+Depp is. A weird story about a strange director played by an ingenious actor, directed by a crazy person. This just have to be perfect. And it is.
Alice in Wonderlandwas a bit disappointing. But that's okay. It still is an amazing piece of art. Maybe it's also just me who can't fall in love with Alice in Wonderland.
Corpse Bridemade my life better. Most likely my favorite Tim Burton movie so far. A funny movie, with witty dialogs, amazing music and awesome characters and voices. A movie I could watch every day...several times...
Edward ScissorhandsThe perfect proof that great acting doesn't need words. I wanted to hug Edward all the time through the movie. Johnny Depp did such a good job. The story is touching. Tears are guaranteed.
Sweeney Toddis probably not the perfect movie for me. Apparently I can't watch it when someone cuts one's throat (because knives and scissors freak me out...) and I thought there's something missing in the story and it felt a lot like Harry Potter with Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman and Timothy Spell, but probably I should just watch it again and concentrate on what's going on. *cough*
This is my Tim Burton journey so far. It will go on and on until he stops making movies. And I'm sure my love will grow. With his movies he invites you to dream. He takes you to magical places and he does it with a lot of details, love, craziness and creativity that you have to fall in love with it. No matter what.
If you have never seen a Tim Burton movie you should definitely try one. How about Big Fish or Corpse Bride?

I watched four Tim Burton movies within two days. First Alice in Wonderland then Corpse Bride. Then Corpse Bride again followed by Edward Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd. Amazing...
This week's movie is a Disney movie and it's a movie I wanted to see. Alice in Wonderland. Watch the trailer first if you haven't seen the movie or don't know what it is about (but I hope that everybody knows what Alice in Wonderland is about...but...actually...who really knows what it is about? I don't).
I'm not a fan of Alice in Wonderland. That's why I'm not going to talk about the story. I completely understand when people say they love Alice in Wonderland, I'm just not one of them. I'm not an Alice fan, but I am for sure a Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fan. That's the reason why I wanted to see this movie. Let's say it was okay-ish. I was dissapointed because I had the feeling that it was less inventive than Burton's other movies. Tim Burton is such a creative person and I've already been worried when I just heard that he's going to do Alice in Wonderland. While watching the movie something happened that I can't stand while watching movies. I didn't see the movie I was watching I saw other movies. It wasn't Alice in Wonderland anymore. It was a mishmash of different animated/cartoon movies, Narnia and Lord of the Rings. When I watch a movie I want to say "Wow, great idea" and not "Hey, that's like LotR!" Also, funny thing. The White Queen reminded me of Lady Gaga all the time. This was a bit distracting, but funny ;) Please enjoy Alice and the White Queen alias Lady Gaga alias Anne Hathaway in the kitchen.
Enough ranting. There were also some amazingly good things about this movie. The costumes. Can I have every single dress Mia Wasikowska wears in this movie? Pretty please? Okay? Thanks. They did such a great job with all her dresses. I can't even say which one I loved the most. They were all pretty. Another thing I found fascinating is the way this movie was made. Movies that are half animated are always a thing hard to imagine. In a "normal" movie you have a set somewhere with real people and real trees and real streets etc. In a half animated movie you have a studio, a lot of green walls and that's it. I really look up to actors who can do such an amazing job working at a set that looks like that:
And I think the whole movie is made like that. I think I wouldn't do a great job in acting with all these green walls and people...
Alice in Wonderland was again a movie that I can't really recommend. Not because it was bad, no, because it's another movie where everyone has to decide him/herself whether to watch it or not. But "I don't like Alice in Wonderland" is not an excuse ;)
It's time to share my thoughts on a Pixar movie again. This time Wall•e. If you haven't seen this movie and don't know what it is about, watch the trailer:
I had mixed feeling before I watched this movie. On the one hand I heard so many good things about it, on the other hand is this a movie I knew I'm not going to like. I can't stand robots and all the noises robots make (in movies). And it was like that. I almost stopped watching this movie after 20 minutes, because there was nobody who talked. Just two robots who said nothing than "Eve" and "Wall•e". It was such a relief when they came to this ship with all the humans. That was my first impression of the movie and more or less what I thought about the whole movie.
I got exhausted while watching this movie. It got terrible bored and as I said I couldn't stand the not talking. But I have to say that there were also things I liked. I liked the plot. I think the concept and the idea of this movie is great. The topic is fantastic and it's closer to reality than most animated movies. The people on the ship are lazy, fat and are not interested in anything anymore. There is this great scene where Wall•e pushes the monitor away from a woman and she's surprised that there's a pool at the ship. I like how she suddenly sees the world again. That's so close to what happens to us. We spend so much time in front of the computer and inside the house. Sometimes we communicate more over the internet than in real life face to face. But there's a fantastic world out there. We shouldn't forget that. I really loved this about the movie and that's why I think it's a movie for the whole family. Kids probably won't get it that it is close to reality, but that's okay.
My favorite quote comes from the captain. Which is easy, because he's one of the few characters in this movie who talks.
"Humans would put seeds in the ground, pour water on them, and they grow food - like, pizza!"
Haha. I hope he wasn't too disappointed when he found out that he can't grow pizza (but I bet John Green would love to have a pizza-plant in his garden).
I can't recommend or not recommend this movie. It's a movie where I think everyone has to make his own decision whether to watch it or not.

I went to the library this week and got Despicable Me, Up and Wall-E. It was a difficult decision. I wanted to take them all at once...yup, I got excited about the whole thing. I started with Despicable Me because that's the movie I really wanted to see. And I loved it! If you don't know what it is about, here is the trailer:
The first 15-20 minutes were really boring, but then the girls appeared more often and also the Minions and it got better and better. This movie is sooo super adorable. I think I don't have to say much about how cute the Minions are. I'd like to play with them all day long. And the girls were adorable. I really liked their names. Margo, Edith and Agnes. Awesome.

I liked Gru as well. First I didn't like his accent, but after a while it was okay and I liked him. And thanks, Gru, for this sentence: "This is literature? A 2-year-old could have written this." Yup, that's how I feel sometimes when I read a bad book. The character I couldn't stand was this professor/scientist guy. He was annoying.
The story wasn't anything special, nothing deep or heavy. It was cute and funny. Of course, there were those typical cartoon/comic jokes that were supposed to be funny and I can't stand this typical, stupid jokes, but I can live with that. Oh, and there was something that I found really interesting and good. In older cartoons weapons and special vehicles always had a tons of buttons and that was really cool and they pushed buttons all the time. In Despicable Me there weren't buttons, everything had touch screens and such stuff. I think it's good that they keep up with the time.

I went to one of my favorite stores in town. Also known as electronic retailer. Um, yeah. I love this store. It's nice to look at all the stuff I'll never ever buy. It's strange. I can go to the electronic retailer looking at all this amazing stuff without wishing I had enough money to buy it. For some reason this doesn't work at fashion stores....hm...but hey, what am I talking about? Back to the electronic retailer.
I go there pretty often. That means every time I finished a season of Friends. So today I went there to buy season 7 and realized on my way back home that I've already spend almost 70€ on Friends. That's insane. Am I crazy? I don't earn any money. I don't have a job. I don't do anything I should do. I don't deserve a single episode. Great, now I feel bad about watching Friends. But I should really stop buying stuff. I shouldn't buy anything anymore until I have a job. But what am I talking about again? Antonia, look at the post title. This should be about Disney and Pixar, okay? (Now I'm talking to myself. I'll never get to the point. sigh)
Back to the story. I was at the electronic store. I picked up Friends Season 7. On the way to the check out I passed a big shelf with Disney and Pixar movies. I stopped. And took a look. "Hm...let's see how many of these oh so awesome movies I've seen." A few minutes later I'm done. There was Finding Nemo. I've definitely seen this one. Also 101 Dalmatians. And...and...and I've probably seen Cars. And I've seen half of Ratatouille. And...um...I think that's it. I think you can say by now that I'm NOT a Disney fan girl. Wait. Disney produced Pirates of the Caribbean, right? Well, I love that. But I'm not talking about movies with real people in it.
Even though I don't want to see more Disney/Pixar movies (except maybe Tangled) I think I should watch some. I feel like it's a lack of general education or something like that. I mean, I haven't seen a single Toy Story movie! I can't talk about who my favorite Disney princess is, because I haven't seen a single Disney movie with a princess in it. Why is it called Disney princess anyway? Disney didn't invent them. There were those two guys. Jacob and Willhelm Grimm. Remember?
So I have a new plan for the summer. Watch Disney and Pixar movies. Also other animated movies. I don't like animated movies, but I kinda like it to torture myself when it comes to movies. I have three movies on my list that I want to see (really want to see). Tangled, Despicable Me and I want to get through Ratatouille. Oh, and Toy Story.

Hope asked me on formspring whether I buy most of the DVDs I watch or just borrow them from the library. To answer this question, I borrow most of them from the library. The library at my hometown has lots of fantastic and interesting movies and it's quite cheap to borrow them. I haven't found a good place/library in Vienna to borrow DVDs. That's why I bought some more DVDs the last months. I own 35-40 DVDs. Here's my collection :) By the way, you can tell from the background where I took the pictures. yellow-ish = home, green = Vienna ;) Which does not mean, that the DVDs are where the covers are. Some of them are empty...

Summary: Karen Wright and Martha Dobie have worked hard to raise a girl's bording school. Mary, one of the girls, gets punished for telling a lie. She gets angry about that and tells her grandmother, that Martha is jealous of Karen, who wants to marry Dr. Joe Cardin, and tells her that Martha's feelings are unnatural. Her grandmother believes her and takes her out off school. Other parents the words and a few days later there aren't any kids at school anymore. Martha and Karen don't understand what's going on. One father tells them about the rumor and they get upset. Their perfect life quickly turned into a nightmare. Karen's fiancé lose his job for being friend with a "homosexuelle" couple and there's nobody left who believe the true story.
This movie is based on a play (same title) from 1934(!) by Lillian Hellman.

Positive: The way this movie is made is quite interesting. Usually movies contains lot of scenes where nobody is talking and you just have to watch what's happening. In this movie there's hardly ever a moment where nobody talks. You really have to concentrate on what they are talking about. It's like following some interesting discussions. And the topic of course. It's about homosexuality, but in an interesting way. There is this child, Mary, who's angry and tells her grandmother a lie about her teachers. And this lie ruined them. Everybody believed the child's story. You definitely don't stop thinking about the whole story for a while.
Negative: I found it a bit hard to follow from time to time, because they just discuss and there is not much happening. I know, I mentioned the same thing at "positive", but it is positive AND negative. I can't think of anything else.
Sexual content: This movie is about homosexuality, but it does not contain homosexual scenes.
Karen kissed his fiancé once and hugged him several times. And Karen kissed Martha on the cheek. This was before the rumor and it was just in a friendly way, because she wanted to thank her for something (or something like that...)
Violence: No physical violence, but I consider it as violence what Mary did to Karen and Martha.
Music: Music? Can't remember? Was there music?
Actors: Mary is the typical angry child ;) And Audrey Hepburn is fantastic!
My Opinion: If you like old movies and want to watch something about a serious topic - go watch it! It's such an interesting movie and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I also had a great discussion about this movie with one of my best friends. You also have to imagine the scandal, when the play was written in 1934. It was a great success, but at the same time it was forbidden. What to think about this movie? On the one hand there is this terrible lie and on the other hand there is the fact that from the moment when people start talking about a relationship between Karen and Martha they all turned away from them and didn't even want to talk to them. That's horrible, because before the rumor people saw them as good teachers and liked them. I think there are two points to think about after watching this movie:
How would you react when you find out that your teacher (or someone you always liked) has homosexual feelings? And if you are against homosexuality: How to treat them?
How a lie can ruin someones life and how important it is to be honest and always tell the truth!
After publishing my Atonement review Eldarwen left a comment and asked me how the movie is rated. First I didn't know what she meant (I don't know ALL English words ;), but after some time I had an idea and googled it. Now I know what it means and again I've expanded my English vocabulary skills ;)
It's an interesting question. I already thought about movie rating some time ago. I don't know who decides how a movie is rated. Also every movie is rated different from country to country.
I have a good example for you. This is a picture of the DVD of Bonnie and Clyde. I took this DVD as an example because there are so many ratings of different countries on it (usually there is only the German one on it). I don't know from which countries all these are. But let's have a look:
The blue one over the "hole" is the German one. Germany recommend this movie for people over 16. I totally agree with this one. I would also recommend it to people 15 or 16 and up. The top one (maybe Spain) recommend it to 13 up! Two more for 18 (don't know the country) and Greek says 17. Isn't it strange? How can one country say that people under 18 shouldn't watch this movie and the other one recommend it to 13 year olds?
My opinion is, that you can't always trust these things. I think it's much more better to read reviews and aks people who have already seen the movie. Of course it's a good thing too, because you can of course say, that you wouldn't let a 6 year old kid watch a movie which is recommended to 16 year old people ;)
That's why I don't include the rating in my reviews, because it's different everywhere and I only know the German rating. If you want to know how it is rated in Germany/Austria I can include it next time. Just let me know! I could also tell you how I would rate it.
Summary: Salomon, a Jewish boy, lives with his family in Germany. In the early days of WWII he gets separeted from his family. When he flees to Russian occupied Poland, he is placed in a Soviet orphanage. When Hitler invades Russia he is captured by the German army. Salomon convices the German soldieres that he is an ethnic German. They believe him and he starts to work for the Army as an interpreter, because of his good Russian skills. He quickly becomes a war hero and eventually becomes a Hitler Youth. But he always lives in fear to get exposed.
It's a real story and is based on the autobiography by Salomon Perel.
Trailer:
Positive: The concept of the movie. It's an interesting point of view. Movies about jews in the Second World War usually show the situation in concentration camps or in ghettos. This one is different. Salomon is jewish but he act like an aryan. The movie is also quite thrilling. Sometimes I nearly stopped breathing, because someone nearly discovered, that Salomon is a Jew.
Negative: In the first half of the movie they speak a lot of Russian (or is it Polish?), which is a bit hard to watch, because you don't understand a word if you don't speak Russian and you have to read subtitles for about 10 minutes straight. There were also two scenes which I found confusing. One of these scenes was definitely a dream, maybe both of them were. I don't know. It was strange and for a while I didn't know what was going on.
Sexual content: There is quite a lot of kissing and touching going on in this movie. Salomon has a crush on three different girls (not at the same time!). The third girl, Leni, wants to have sex with him, but he doesn't want it, because he doesn't want her to see that he is a jew.
He also has sex with a SS woman on the train (this was one of the strangest scenes of the whole movie).
You can also see Salomon's genitales once.
I think that's it.
Sounds a lot and I think it is a bit too much. But all these scene are short and if you watch the trailer you've already seen most of these scenes. Have you ever noticed that? They always put the kissing and sex scenes into the trailer.
Violence: War violence. A couple of people get shot.
Music: Nothing special. There was one theme repeating, which was a bit boring.
Actors: Nothing special.
My Opinion: On the one hand I think it is a good movie, because of the nearly unbelievable story. A Jewish boy being a hero of the German Army during WWII! On the other hand there are some strange scenes and some unnecessary sexual content and there are definitely better movies about the Second World War out there. But if you want to see one from a completely new perspective - go watch it! It isn't a bad movie, just a bit odd ;)

Later Briony reads a letter from Robbie to Cecilia and after reading this letter she is absolutely positive that Robbie is a sexual criminal. When her cousin Lola is raped she tells the police that she saw Robbie doing it, even though she knows that it isn't true...
This movie is based on the book "Atonement" by Ian McEwan.

Positive: Nearly everything of the movie! Everything fits together perfectly. The locations, the costumes, the music, everything! The first 45 minutes are so beautiful. I love the locations in the movie and I would love to live in the house of the Tallis family. There are so many details in this movie. The second part (during the war) is less beautiful because of all the injured/dead people and the blood, but it's impressive and well made.
Negative: Can't think of any. There is only one odd thing. Briony has the same haircut her whole life. With 13, 18 and as an old woman. ;)

Music: The soundtrack is one of my favourite soundtracks ever. It's such an amazing work and it fits perfectly to the situations. Like I said, all the parts of the movies and the details fit together and harmonise. And the typewriting parts of the soundtrack are impressive. Actors: I'm a fan of Saoirse Ronan as Briony Tallis. I don't like Briony later as an 18-year-old, but the 13-year-old Briony is stunning.
My Opinion: I love this movie. I think I've seen it four times now and I still can't get enough. Every time I watch it I understand some more things or discover something new. It's a beautiful movie and at the same time one of the saddest stories about love ever.
Sorry for not posting yesterday. I don't really have an apologize for not posting. I can tell you what I did instead ;) I watched a movie and this movie was thrilling and I couldn't stop and after the movie it was already after midnight and I wanted to go to bed. I watched "The Shining". Wow, I loved this movie. It seems like I get into the horror movie genre now. I love The Shining and as you know I love Hitchcock movies. I don't like movies like "Saw" or "House of Wax" and all this nonsense. I prefer movies which are more like a thriller or a mystery movie with a touch of horror ;) The Shining was great.
Talking about favourite movies brings me to movie reviews. I thought a lot about this whole movie review thing I want to start. I already wrote one review (not published yet!), but I'm not sure which movie I should review first. You know, I want to have a nice start. I would love to review "The Shining" right now, but I think it's not the best movie to start the whole review thing. Because I know how many people do not like movies like "The Shining". Of course, I will review this movie one day. I think once I published my first review it will be much more easier. What do you think? Just tell me which genre you would like to read about! Or tell me, that you would love to read a review about "The Shining" first :P

I don't cook with recipes. I use recipes but only to know the ingredients. I read what I'm supposed to use and then I take a bit of this and a bit of that and mix it all together and cook it or bake it or whatever and then I eat it ;)
And I use recipes for baking, but I don't have any here in Vienna.

My favourite book: I don't have a favourite book. I like many books a lot. One of these books is "If on a Winter's Night a Traveller" by Italo Calvino. I love this book. The whole construction of the book is amazing. Calvino did an amazing job and I'm super excited that we are going to talk about my favourite book at university!!!

Only because he played Indiana Jones. I love how he played Indiana Jones. I don't think I've seen any other films starring him.
I don't like horror films or let's say, I don't like NEW horror films. I do like some of the old ones. For example Hitchcock movies. I watched "The birds" and "Psycho" this week and they were both really good movies. If you like old movies and you don't mind if there get some people killed, watch Hitchcock movies. I found it quite interesting that both, "The birds" and "Psycho", are based on novels. I think I have to read those books, especially "Psycho", because the plot is great! Have you ever seen a Hitchcock movie?
And I love this movie trailer for the movie "The Birds". Why don't they make such trailers anymore?
I realised how much I have to do after I didn't have anything to do. That's how it is at the moment. I don't have to do anything. No studying, nothing. But since I've finished school I'm still busy.
The first thing was, that I put all my school stuff together and banned it from my room. It's so good to have a room without school books and pages of calculations or other handwritten stuff. My room is a bit empty now. I realised: school stuff needs a lot of space.
After that I started to answer letters and e-mails. I answered a letter I got back in March. That's not a good feeling! I apologized hundreds of times and I hope that she'll write back. I totally forgot about some of my friends during the last months. That's sad. But now I try to write more often to keep in touch with them.
I also have many things to do to plan my vacation. Searching for flights and trains. Trains are complicated. The Austrian and German train system is awful. Maybe it's only because I don't understand it, but it IS complicated and expensive. Taking the airplane is much more easier and cheeper.
Let's continue. Next busy point: FUTURE! Yes, there's something after 14 weeks free time. And I have to think about this time (even if I don't want to think about it). I have to make big decisions. University, yes. But that's all I know. Should I study English, Biology, History, Math (okay, I'll not study Math!) or something completely different? Something uncommon? I have to find something that I really like, but I haven't yet.
And the second thing about FUTURE! (I love to write this word in capitals, it's more dramatically ;) I have to search a place to live. As I mentioned I am going to move to Vienna. In September. But I don't know where in Vienna. So I have to search a flat... I'll share it with a good friend, but it's difficult to find a place to live in a big city (if you are a girl from a small town).
Anything else? Um, yes. Driving license... How much do I dislike cars? Very, very much! But everybody tells me, that I need a driving license. Too bad.
I have to go to bed now. It's 11:23 PM and I don't want to know how many mistakes I did in this post. My English is not the best at this time of the day. And my thoughts are somewhere between the Football World Cup and Winnetou. Do you watch the World Cup? It's a pity that the USA lost the last game. And today England lost and Germany won. I don't like the German team. By the way, I don't know anything about football (for those who don't know it: football=soccer). I only watch it, if there's a World Cup or a European Cup. And Winnetou? Yes, Winnetou, nothing else to say ;) Just listen:
