If you haven't seen this movie and don't know what it is about, watch the trailer:
I had mixed feeling before I watched this movie. On the one hand I heard so many good things about it, on the other hand is this a movie I knew I'm not going to like. I can't stand robots and all the noises robots make (in movies). And it was like that.
I almost stopped watching this movie after 20 minutes, because there was nobody who talked. Just two robots who said nothing than "Eve" and "Wall•e". It was such a relief when they came to this ship with all the humans.
That was my first impression of the movie and more or less what I thought about the whole movie.
I got exhausted while watching this movie. It got terrible bored and as I said I couldn't stand the not talking. But I have to say that there were also things I liked.
I liked the plot. I think the concept and the idea of this movie is great. The topic is fantastic and it's closer to reality than most animated movies.
The people on the ship are lazy, fat and are not interested in anything anymore. There is this great scene where Wall•e pushes the monitor away from a woman and she's surprised that there's a pool at the ship. I like how she suddenly sees the world again. That's so close to what happens to us. We spend so much time in front of the computer and inside the house. Sometimes we communicate more over the internet than in real life face to face. But there's a fantastic world out there. We shouldn't forget that.
I really loved this about the movie and that's why I think it's a movie for the whole family. Kids probably won't get it that it is close to reality, but that's okay.
My favorite quote comes from the captain. Which is easy, because he's one of the few characters in this movie who talks.
"Humans would put seeds in the ground, pour water on them, and they grow food - like, pizza!"
I can't recommend or not recommend this movie. It's a movie where I think everyone has to make his own decision whether to watch it or not.
Have you seen this movie? Please let my know what you think about it?
PS: Wall•e and M-O are adorable. Especially M-O.
I'm thinking Disney- Pixar had the least production expenditure on this one. They no longer had to hire translators and dubbers for the Spanish, Chinese, etc. versions of the movies. :D
ReplyDeleteI actually liked this, but I don't think I'll watch it again. First time's amusing. Second time's a drag. :p
What I liked about it was how the animators paid extra attention to how the robots will express their feelings. After all, they don't talk. So I found it amusing how their feelings were evident through the blinking of their lights, Wall- E boxing up because he's so shy, stuff like that.
I remember myself thinking, though, "Man, when are they gonna talk?"
Overall, I rate it a 3 out of 5. Minus the two since it's not a movie I'd watch over and over again. (I bet I'll be mute by the time I finish a second viewing.) Three for the superb graphics.
On 2nd thought, I think the beauty of the movie could actually be in their not talking. That way, viewers could focus on their movement and the music. And the fact that a story was related w/ few words is genius (I wonder what the screenplay looks like.), especially in a world where everbody talks a lot in real life and online.
ReplyDeleteIt was like saying that actions speak louder than words, that actually taking care of the environment is better than making commercials, speeches, etc. about it. Ok, maybe I'm going too far with the concept. Heehee.
I like your insights about the plot, esp. the one about people facing screens too often.
Man, my comments can be so long they could be blog entries already!
:)
I haven't seen it yet. My aunt didn't like it very much so I figured I wouldn't either. I'm pretty sure I will wind up watching it someday, just not now. :)
ReplyDeleteThe movie really doesn't look like my kind of movie.. and I even watched "Robots" and thought that was cute.. but this looks a little awkward! Maybe I'll give it a chance someday, though! ;]
ReplyDeleteI've seen this several times. It's okay. Not my favorite because you don't really emotionally connect to any of the characters because they don't talk. And it really isn't my thing. Yes, MO is cute! :D :D
