Disco clothes or clown costume?

My Mom searched through the attic today and found some of her old clothes. First she found an oversized white t-shirt with a Mickey Mouse print. It's cute and I would definitely wear it at home or in bed.
My Mom told me that she loved this t-shirt when she was around 20. It was something really special, because not many people had such a cool shirt. She bought it in a little boutique. That's where you got Mickey Mouse shirts 30 years ago. ;)
Today she smiled and said proudly "I wore this t-shirt at the disco."
I was like "You're kidding?!"
No, she wasn't. She was absolutely serious.
My Mom continued searching and found another piece. A vest she sewed by herself. Here it is:
(sorry, bad webcam quality :/ )

Guess what?
Mom: "I wore this at the disco."
I couldn't stop laughing. So funny!
Who would wear a Mickey Mouse shirt and a turquoise vest at the disco?
Nobody.
Also disco was a lot different when my Mom was 20-25 years old. I'm always surprised how different everything was 30 years ago.
Nowadays disco is just drinking alcohol and awful loud music. My Mom went to the disco to talk (is talking even possible in today's discos with super loud music?) and dance (cool dancing) and my Mom doesn't even drink alcohol!
It's sad that it changed so much.

Also my Mom talks a lot about dresses, skirts and other things she sewed when she was young. It was less expensive when she was young. People sewed their own clothes because they couldn't effort to buy everything at a store. It was something special to buy a dress at the store.
And today? It's much cheaper to go to a store and buy everything you want than sewing your own clothes.
I would LOVE to learn to sew my own dresses and skirts, but it is super expensive.
I don't know how it is in the US, but here in Austria fabric is really expensive. I don't have enough money to sew my own clothes. That's so sad :(

While writing this post I remembered that I've already worn my Mom's vest once years ago. Not to go to the disco. No. To dress up like a clown for the clown party in kindergarten :D

  3. That's so cute.

It is lamentable that "hot spots" today are loud sort where people get drunk. :(

I remember when I was 12, I sewed a dress for my toddler sister... She wouldn't wear it because it was recycled from our bed sheet. She didn't want to walk around walking in bed sheets! Haha.

  5. Thank you all! :)

Yeah, I was a cute clown, but not a happy one. I didn't wanted to dress up as a clown. I didn't like clowns (still don't like them ;) )

  6. LOL, I HAVE a giant white t-shirt with a mickey mouse print on it-I wear it to bed all the time xD. That is too fun :D. I've managed to inherit some non-awful turtlenecks from my mom's youth, and she lets me borrow her old skirts sometimes too :). And you're right-it is sad that they charge more for fabric than they do the clothes that are made from it. I'd love to work with my mom and make my own prom dress-I know exactly what I'd wish to have-but it just isn't a realistic option :-P.
