Bratislava

Lena visited me this week in Vienna. The last time I saw her was in June 2010. Lena is one of my best friends. I met her in 2007, but I think we haven't seen each other more than 5 times since then.
She spent three days at my place in Vienna and on the second day we went to Bratislava by train. Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and it's only 1h 10min (by train) away from Vienna. I have never been to Slovakia, neither has Lena. Which is sad because it's so close. Vienna is so close to Slovakia and my hometown is so close to Hungary. I think we should know more about our neighboring countries.
Austria has eight neighboring countries, now I've been to four of them. I'm not sure if that's a lot. I've been to Italy many times. I was in Hungary last summer...to go shopping in a grocery store. I spent more than a week in Germany last summer and now I spent a day in Slovakia. Still missing: Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Liechtenstein.
What I can say about Bratislava is that the historic center is way smaller than we expected it to be and that it is amazingly empty. We planned to spend the whole day there, but already got bored after a few hours (that's why went back to Vienna in the early afternoon and spent the rest of the day in the museum).
Here are some pics. Sorry, I didn't put much effort in taking good pictures.

the historic center was pretty. I liked the colorful details at the buildings.

Lena. We had fun even though we got a bit bored.

We read in the tourist guide that there's a blue church a bit outside of the historic center and Lena got all excited and said like 10 times that she has to see it because she's never seen a blue church before. So we walked all the way to see a blue church and we both loved it.
And it was good to leave the center a bit and walk through the residential area and see how people live. You really can't compare our neighbors to the east with Austria...it's so different.

  1. A blue church? That's amazing. And I've only been to three countries other than England, so I think your amount of travelling seems normal. I love that you went to Hungary for groceries.

  3. Those building are gorgeous, I really love that clock tower. Going to a foreign country just for groceries sounds exciting, haha! :) I've only been out of the country once. I'd love to visit Canada and Mexico sometime soon.
