Have you ever wondered where your name comes from?
What its meaning is?
Or have you already checked it out?
And the most important question: Do you like your name?
I don't really care about name's meanings. But I love to check out the meaning of names just for fun and to decide whether the meaning fits to the people I know or not.
Sometimes it really fits to the person.
So what does Antonia mean?
Antonia is Roman origin and here is a description of "how to pronounce Antonia" I found at wikipedia.com.
"Antonia can refer to the girl's name Antonia, which (in English) is pronounced anne-TONE-eeh-yah or ann-TON-ya."
I didn't know how to pronounce my name in English, but here it is.
We pronounce it a different way...
Pronouncing a name isn't that easy. Sometimes I have big problems with pronouncing foreign names. I'm sure some of you would laugh really hard hearing me pronouncing your name.
Embarrasing, I know...
My name's meaning is "priceless", "beautiful" and "praiseworthy".
I think I can live with that fact. ;)
Wikipedia also suggest some nicknames. Toni, Tone, T, TT, Tonia, Ant, and Anto
I don't have a nickname and I don't want to have one. I'm glad that nobody ever had the strange idea of giving me a nickname.
I'm Antonia.
I like my name.
I hated my name for years, but now I'm okay with it.
I didn't like my name, because I considered it as too long and it is such an uncommon name. I didn't know anybody who has the same name.
But now it's great to be "unique", but at the same time I'm meeting even more and more people having the same name as I have.
This was a short story about my name.
Tell me your story...
Aww, I like this idea. I'm gonna to it on my blog for tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteMy name, which is Aimillia isn't in the dictionary. Hehe. Don't worry, it's pronounced the same as Amelia.
ReplyDeleteSamantha: Nice to hear that you like it. Can't wait to read your "story" :)
ReplyDeleteYour name is very unique Antonia!
ReplyDeleteMy name, Amber, means "A Jewel". I used to think it was way too common (I really love UNcommon names) but I'm starting to love it :)
Hi again! I just wanted to know how long you have been speaking English. I guess you really inspire me to pursue my French speaking (I know that's not your 1st language and all) but I am very inspired by you!
ReplyDelete8 years? No wonder you speak good English :)
ReplyDeleteI've been studying French for about a year. I think I am going to keep on going. I might want to learn a different language though.
I love your name! How do you pronounce it in your language?
ReplyDeleteMy name means "wide island " hmmm I guess that is why Sydney, Australia is called Sydney. I'll have to look that up :)
My name, Sereina, means serene; calm and untroubled. I like having a unique name, but it gets misspelled all the time...
